But it is a little more complicated because the tide stops the river from flowing into the sea for between 4 and 6 hours twice a day. It also takes 12 hours for water from Lincoln to reach Boston, or so I was told by the Boston harbourmaster who controls the water level, this year.
However a small fishing platform makes a great water gauge to give me some idea. Also if the sluice at Stamp End is slightly open, and the traffic light red, this should mean my boat will be floating
